COMMUNICATIONS AND FUNDRAISING OFFICER
The Organisation:
The Banyan is a 16 year old NGO based in Chennai working in the field of Mental Health. Starting as a rescue and rehabilitation service for homeless, destitute women, who suffer from mental illness, The Banyan has developed and now offers a spectrum of services for clients and their care givers in Chennai and Kancheepuram District. We believe that our energy, experience and scope will continue to change the face of mental health care in India.
The Role:
A dynamic and experienced communicator, your role will be two-fold. Firstly, you will actively work on a variety of communication channels to raise awareness of The Banyan. This will involve online responsibilities, communication with funding agencies and sponsors and innovative promotion of activity to the media to name but a few.
Secondly, you will be proactively involved supporting The Banyan's fundraising efforts, using your communication skills to investigate potential income streams, actively promote fundraising events, to draw up funding proposals for agencies and to make general appeals.
The Essential skills:
- Strong, proven writing skills across the media e.g. websites, reports, project proposals, press releases
- Ability to grasp and communicate complex social issues effectively to various audiences
- Ability to juggle many different tasks simultaneously
- Enthusiasm and perseverance!
Desirable skills:
- Understanding of the development sector in India, particularly relating to mental health
- Experience in dealing with persons with mental illness
- A desire to get involved in the work of the organisation, beyond the communications brief
- Html knowledge
- Knowledge of design packages including Adobe Photoshop
- Experience of online marketing
- Experience of a communications environment and the roles therein
The Location:
The role is based in Chennai, but may require occasional travel across India. You must be eligible to work in India to apply for this position.
