Restoring Futures: Collaborative Care

ECRCs offer a range of services, including crisis support, diverse residences, collaborative care planning, opportunities for bespoke work and leisure pursuits, reintegration options and aftercare. Through 19 centres—run directly or in partnership with state and non-state partners—across India, we have provided services to over 4,599 individuals. Of these, 6 in 10 have successfully transitioned through family reunification, employment-based living, or independent housing.

Public-Private Partnership Model

Of all ECRC replications, in 9 locations, the centres are implemented through a public-private partnership (PPP) with the National Health Mission (NHM), Government of Tamil Nadu (GoTN) and local civil society organisations. Significantly, the NHM partnership replication involved the placement of the ECRC within the District Hospitals, instituting services for homeless people within the public health system, in an inclusive setting that is a departure from the usual isolation of psychiatric facilities.

One cold morning, with her youngest child in her arms, she left home in a fit of rage—this time, for good. After a period of living adrift, she arrived at the Emergency Care and Recovery Centre (ECRC), where she finally found the support, she had long been denied.

At The Banyan, Nafisa experienced kindness, trust, and the chance to rebuild her sense of self. She formed a community of friends who took the time to understand her story, offering her a rare sense of belonging.
